EPPF makes its presence felt in the Washington DC Metro Area
Ethiopian Review
September 4, 2006
The Ethiopian People's Patriotic Front (EPPF) makes its presence felt in the Washington DC Metro Area for the first time yesterday afternoon by organizing a successful public meeting. The meeting at the Hilton Hotel in Alexandria's Mark Center was attended by over 200 Ethiopians. Much more people could have come to the meeting had there been a more organized and effective PR work. But it was a good start, and the organizers, as well as those who came to the meeting seem to be satisfied.EPPF's chairman of the International Leadership Committee, Ato Zewdalem Kebede, was the keynote speaker. He gave a moving speech about EPPF's objectives, drawing several rounds of applause. He also talked about the Alliance for Freedom and Democracy (AFD). He said, we have AFD on one hand to sue for peace, and EPPF one the other to pursue the military option. The next speaker was Col. Getnet Yimer, chairman of the EPPF North America Chapter. Col. Getnet pointed out the many obstacles facing EPPF in mobilizing support in North America. Some of the obstacles, according to Col. Getnet, include the propaganda by Meles regime agents to scare off potential supporters saying that supporting EPPF would result in breaking the U.S. law. Col. Getnet said that the American people, who detest dictatorship and fascism, would not object to a people's struggle for their freedom. The last speaker was Ato Demis Belete of Negat Radio. Demis came to the meeting wearing a military combat fatigue that is adorned with the Ethiopian flag on the left and right shoulders. It was given to him by the freedom fighters.
